Getting to Know Groundwork Hosts, Scott and Darrell

Have you had a chance to hear hosts Scott Hoezee and Darrell Delaney talk about God’s word on Groundwork? Even though it’s only been six months since Darrell joined us, together, he and Scott have led us in engaging conversations studying Christian discipleship, God’s faithfulness during change, 1 Corinthians, the Ten Commandments, and Jonah. It’s hard to believe we’ve covered so much in such a short amount of time! Their enthusiasm and passion for God’s Word and how it applies to today’s world is contagious and continues to produce faith-cultivating Groundwork episodes.

Since Scott and Darrell haven’t been working together for too long, we thought it would be fun to ask them some questions to help you get to know them a bit better. Turns out that we’ve learned quite a bit about them as well!

Q&A: Scott Hoezee

What's your favorite hobby?

Outdoors: Birdwatching.

Indoors: I am a hobby, gourmet cook. I love preparing meals and experimenting with different cuisines.

Who is your favorite Biblical character (other than Jesus)?

The Old Testament character of Jacob. The Bible makes no bones about the fact that he spent his early life as a schemer and a trickster, but he develops in amazing ways and by the end of his life has matured into a wonderful saint.

What is your favorite Groundwork episode or series so far?

I enjoy each Groundwork series in different ways. But I have especially enjoyed  two quite opposite topical series: The Seven Deadly Sins and The Fruit of the Spirit.

What do you like most about being a pastor?

When I served as a full-time pastor, my favorite task was preaching and teaching, but I also enjoyed caring for people and getting to know them.

What’s it like to record Groundwork with Darrell?

Darrell has a deep love for and knowledge about Scripture and I enjoy how even in the moment of recording—despite our earlier preparations—we end up digging into facets of Scripture we had not planned to talk about on a given program but that are fun to explore once we get rolling. Darrell also has a lovely sense of humor and some fine turns-of-phrase that he throws in and that make me laugh!

What is something you are thankful for this year?

We moved in Spring 2021 out into the country and it has been wonderful to have an array of birds in the trees around us and on our many bird feeders! God's creation is always a source of renewal for me.

Q&A: Darrell Delaney

What's your favorite hobby?

Chess, video games, playing with my kids, dating my wife!

Who is your favorite Biblical character (other than Jesus)?

OT: Samuel or Moses

NT: Paul

What is your favorite Groundwork episode or series so far?

1 Corinthians was tons of fun!

What do you like most about being a pastor?

Walking with people in their most precious moments, whether joyful or difficult.

What’s it like to record Groundwork with Scott?

It’s a blast because we get to play off each other. Scott is flexible, and humorous! He has helped me feel at ease since this is all new to me. He brings a depth to the show that is also great. We will go from Marvel to Mozart to C.S. Lewis! That’s great!

What is something you are thankful for this year?

I’m thankful for life, health, and strength.

We hope you enjoyed getting to know a little more about our hosts, Scott and Darrell. Be sure to join them for weekly episodes of Groundwork, where they dig deeply into the scriptures as the foundation of our lives, applying it with insight for today’s world.
