Who Is Jesus Christ?

Each year around Easter, grocery checkout magazines and cable television documentaries appear asking the question, “Who was Jesus?” They answer their own questions with a mixture of facts and sensationalist innuendo that leave genuinely interested readers or viewers more uncertain about who Jesus is than they were when they began. On the other hand, the Bible makes a full and convincing case that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that he is a Savior who died for the sins of the world and who rose again so that all who believe in him may have eternal life, and that he will come again to the Earth. That he lived in a time and place is undisputed, and the impact of his life on human history is undeniable.
Jesus is the central figure of Christianity. Belief in his life, death, and resurrection unites Christians across all denominations and traditions. Sharing his gospel and teaching his word is Groundwork’s primary mission. We invite you to explore answers to the question, “Who is Jesus?” through the Groundwork audio Bible study series listed below.
Groundwork is a weekly, half-hour audio program for radio and podcast that digs deeply into Scripture as the foundation for our lives. Our current hosts, Scott Hoezee and Darrell Delaney, cultivate our understanding of God’s Word by unpacking the richness of the Bible in casual conversation and applying it with insight for today’s world. These series are great for personal or group study.
Jesus Christ: Light of the World. The sun gives light essential to life on Earth. But the Bible tells us of a greater light that brings hope to our whole being, spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical. Through stories of his birth, hosts Scott and Darrell explore the theme of Jesus Christ as the Light of the World.
The Nature of Jesus Our Messiah. One of the Bible’s most well-known messianic promises is found in Isaiah 9:6. In this series, hosts Scott and Darrell reflect on the four titles for the Messiah found in this beloved promise and examine additional New Testament references that help us more fully understand the significance of each title and how they impact the way we live as Jesus’ disciples today.
Who is Jesus Christ? For centuries, Christians have declared that Jesus Christ is Savior and Lord. In this four-part series, host Scott Hoezee and retired host Dave Bast study the scriptural evidence about the person, nature, role, and purpose of Jesus Christ.
Jesus: the Lion and the Lamb. In this series, hosts Scott and Dave draw our focus to two images of Jesus Christ presented in Revelation 5:5-6: Jesus, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah and Jesus, the Lamb who was slain. What do these seemingly contradicting images of Jesus tell us about who Jesus is?
The Incarnation: What it Means and Why it Matters. The Christmas season is full of nostalgia and tradition, but we should be careful not to gloss over what “Jesus, the Son of God in human flesh” means. In this series, hosts Scott and Dave look at what the Apostle Paul says about the incarnation of the Son of God as a truth necessary to our beliefs about salvation and our place in God’s family.
The Jesus We Don't Know. Are we selective in our memories about Jesus? Do we focus just on those parts of his character we find appealing? What about the stories in the Bible that depict Jesus with characteristics that seem scandalous? Former host Dave Bast and guest host Reggie Smith study Scripture to discover the Jesus we don’t know and how this more complete picture of Christ leads us to greater obedience.
Gospel Beginnings. A five-part series on the similarities and differences of the four gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Hosts Scott and Dave discuss the perspective of each book for shaping our faith and understanding of Jesus Christ.
The Gospel of John. If you want to know who Jesus is, study the gospel of John. The apostle John curates signs and teachings that point to Jesus Christ’s identity as the Messiah, both fully God and fully human. In this series, hosts Scott and Dave explore John’s gospel so that together we can grow in our understanding of Jesus Christ, his purpose, and what this means for us as his disciples today.
